Allegany County

Allegany County is named after the Allegany River in New York. It spans 1,029 square miles and is divided by the Genesee River. Established in 1806, the area was originally home to the Seneca people. The county seat, Belmont, is located along the Genesee River and was once called “Philipsville.” According to the 2020 U.S. census, the county has over 46,456 residents.

The Town and Village Courts handle local ordinance violations, traffic offenses, and small claims under $3,000.
