Washoe County
Washoe was established in 1861 as one of the original nine counties in Nevada. The county was named after the Washoe population that lived in the area. Washoe is uniquely located, considering the western border is shared with California while the north borders Oregon. Its current population is 496,745 residents, covering 6,542 square miles.
Washoe County is under the Second Judicial District. Washoe has four courts: the Incline Village Crystal Bay Township Justice Court, Second Judicial District Court, Reno Justice Court, and Sparks Justice Courts. The second judicial district court is the highest trial court in the county. This judicial district court is divided into the general and family court segments. It covers civil, criminal, family, and domestic relations matters. The three Justice Courts in the county also have civil, criminal, and citation divisions.
Washoe County court records are documentation that is generated during proceedings. These are pleas, decrees, witness testimonies, opening statements, decisions, and appeals. Considering the set Nevada Court Administrative Policy, court records are open to inspection and may be viewed or copied by the public open request. That is provided there are no barring restrictions by law or court order. Juvenile cases, mental health issues, and domestic problems are not typically accessible by all interested parties. Partes can access the open court records from the clerk of the court's office. Their office charges 50 cents for each name search. That is cash only for in-person requests. Money orders or personal checks may also be accepted for mail requests.
The clerk of the courts provides access to the following types of records
- Criminal Cases
- Civil Cases
- Divorce Case Records
- Probate Cases
- Traffic Cases
It is also possible to access court records via the Detailed Case Search portal. These link to the second judicial district court records. Requesters may access court records using the statewide platform Nevada Appellate Courts for case searches.
