Nye County
Nye County was established in 1864 by an Act of the Nevada Territorial Legislature from parts of Esmeralda County. It has a land area of about 18,181.9 square miles, making it the largest county in Nevada and an estimated population of 51,698. Its county seat is Tonopah.
Nye County courts include a District Court and Justice Courts. The District Court, comprising Department 1 and Department 2, handles felony, probate, domestic relations, mental health, juvenile, and civil cases in which the amount in contention is more than $10,000. It hears appeals from administrative agencies and Justice Courts. Specialty courts such as the Drug Court and Family Specialty Court are intervention programs designed for adults and juveniles to help participants become and remain drug-free. The three Justice Courts deal with misdemeanors, traffic infractions, ordinance violations, small claims (less than $10,000), and civil cases with claims less than $15,000.
Nye County public court records include documents, orders, files, judgments, and transcripts collected or created during courthouse legal proceedings. The Nye County Clerk is the official custodian for the court records in the county, such as:
- Civil records
