Clark County
Clark County takes up 7% of Nevada by land area but accounts for over 70% of its population. The county's population was 2,265,461 during the 2020 U.S census. It boasts a total area of 8,061 square miles with Las Vegas serving as its county seat and most populous city. The largest city in the county is Boulder City.
The District Court in Clark County has the authority to try both civil and criminal cases. They hear felony, gross misdemeanor, domestic relation, juvenile, and domestic abuse cases as well as civil claims in which the amount involved in dispute is $10,000 or more. The District Court has a Family Court Division presiding over divorce cases This Family Court Division shares jurisdiction with Justice Courts over orders of protection against domestic violence.
Justice Courts exercise limited jurisdiction over certain types of civil and criminal cases. They handle misdemeanors, landlord-tenant cases, and orders of protection against workplace harassment and stalking as well as civil matters in which the amount of money involved in dispute is $10,000 or less.
Clark County Municipal Courts hear cases that include violations of city and municipal ordinances. They also handle misdemeanors, actions to stop nuisances, tax collections, and claims in which the amount involved in dispute is $2,500 or less.
