Grafton County

Grafton County was named for Augustus Fitzroy, the 3rd Duke of Grafton. It was founded in 1769 and measures 1,749.7 square miles. Its county seat is Haverhill, which was originally in Woodsville. In 2022, it was estimated that 91,126 people lived in the county. The White Mountain National Forest, which is the state's national forest, is located in Grafton County. Its largest city is Lebanon.

The Superior Court and the Circuit Courts are the several courts in Grafton County. The Circuit Courts are in divisions. The Circuit District Courts (4), the Circuit Probate Division (1), and the Circuit Family Divisions (4).

The Superior Court oversees the administration of estates and trusts and settles disputes between organizations and individuals. It also deals with serious criminal cases and family-related issues such as child support issues and paternity establishment cases. The Circuit District division deals with cases that do not fall within the jurisdiction of the Superior Court, small claims, mental health commitment cases, and issues related to rental properties and housing issues. The Circuit Probate Division handles guardianship, name change petitions, and adoption cases. The Circuit Family Divisions presides over juvenile delinquency cases, abuse and neglect cases, divorce proceedings, child visitation rights, and guardianship of minors.
