Hall County

Hall County is Nebraska's fourth most populated county, having over 62,500 residents. It was formed in 1858 and named for Augustus Hall, a former United States Representative. The county is 547 square miles in land area, while the City of Grand Island serves as its county seat.

The District and County Courts make up Hall County's judicial system. As the county's general jurisdiction court, the District Court presides over all felony-related trials and civil lawsuits where the contested amount exceeds $52,000. The apex court also exercises exclusive authority over equity lawsuits, legal separation cases, child custody issues, and other domestic relations cases. As an intermediate appellate court, Hall County's District Court typically reviews evidence and testimonies from the County Court and other administrative agencies to rule on the appeal. The Juvenile Court, a division of the District Court, handles juvenile delinquency, truancy, and all other legal matters involving minors. Hall County has a County Court responsible for resolving civil claims for $52,000 or less, probate matters, adoption cases, and small claims. It also adjudicates misdemeanors, traffic infractions, ordinance violations, and felony pretrials.

Hall County court records are documents created by court clerks during legal proceedings. They include important details like court dates, transcripts of what was said, filings from the case, the names of people involved, decisions made by the court, any orders issued, and sentences given. These records help keep track of what happens in court and are often used for research or legal precedents. In Hall County and other parts of Nebraska, court records containing juvenile, adoption, and drug abuse cases are confidential. However, the Nebraska Public Records Law allows public access to the following court documents:

  • Civil records
  • Probate records
  • Family law records
  • Small claims records
  • Traffic records
  • Criminal records
