Grand Forks County
Grand Forks County is the third-most populous county in North Dakota with a population of 73,170 people at the 2020 census. The county seat is the City of Grand Forks. Grand Forks County occupies an area measuring 1,440 square miles.
A District Court and Municipal Courts constitute Grand Forks' justice system. Grand Forks County District Court has general jurisdiction over all cases. It has exclusive jurisdiction over criminal cases and general jurisdiction over civil cases. It also functions as a juvenile court exercising its judicial power over cases such as juvenile delinquency and handling cases involving unruly behavior by minors.
Municipal Courts handle all kinds of city-related violations ranging from traffic violations such as reckless driving, disobeying traffic signs, and leaving the scene of an accident to city ordinance violations such as building code violations and pet nuisance. They ensure that the rights of individuals are protected, maintain order, and enhance the quality of life. Their jurisdiction is limited to Class B misdemeanors, non-criminal traffic offenses, and other non-criminal offenses.
The District Court Clerk is in charge of creating and keeping the records of court proceedings, transcripts, and judgments in Grand Forks County. The District Clerk also helps in maintaining the integrity and accuracy of court records including audio recordings in accordance with North Dakota laws. Under the North Dakota Constitution, the court clerk must make requested copies of public court records available to the public.

You can also obtain copies of the court records you are interested in at the Clerk's Office where you will be charged a $1 minimum fee. You may also submit your request in writing to the Clerk of the Court where a case was filed. Note that you must pay a $10 fee for each name and type of record requested.
