Wilson County
Wilson County was founded on February 13, 1855, and named for Colonel Louis D. Wilson, a U.S. volunteer soldier. Wilson County spans 373.10 square miles, and its county seat is the City of Wilson. It had 78,970 people in it as of the 2023 population estimate. Wilson County was created by the North Carolina General Assembly from parts of Edgecomb, Nash, Johnston, and Wayne Counties.
A Superior and District Court located in the City of Wilson runs the legal affairs of the county. The Superior Court attends to civil cases in which the amount of money involved in controversy is $25,000 or more. It also handles felony cases, estate administration, guardianship, and foreclosures. It also receives appeals from the District Court. The District Court handles delinquency cases, and infractions, and holds preliminary hearings, small claims, and civil cases involving amounts up to $25,000.
