Lincoln County, North Carolina, was founded in 1779 and named after an officer in the American Revolutionary War, General Benjamin Lincoln. With a population of 86,810 according to the 2020 US census, Lincoln County is the most populous ‘Lincoln County' in the US. It has a land area of 296 square miles and a water area of 9 square miles. Lincolnton is its county seat and largest city.
