Jackson County

Established in 1812 and ranked the fifth most populous county in Mississippi, Jackson County is home to over 145,000 residents and more than 2,000 businesses. Named after Andrew Jackson, a prominent lawyer and former president of the United States, the county is segmented into five districts for administration and has its county seat in Pascagoula.

The Jackson County trial court system comprises the Chancery Court, Circuit Court, County Court, Justice Court, and Youth Court. The Chancery Court hears domestic or family matters, commitments of the mentally disabled, and cases involving estate descendants and land. It also hears appeals from the County Court.

Circuit Court cases primarily involve felonies, civil actions exceeding $75,000, misdemeanors, and appeals from the County Court. Matters handled by the County Court are mostly civic actions between $3,500 and $200,000, misdemeanors, and felony preliminaries. The County Court also hears criminal appeals from municipal courts.

The Justice Court hears civil actions under $3,500, criminal misdemeanor charges, and felony preliminaries. It also hears citations and conducts marriage ceremonies. The Youth Court is a division of the County Court that hears matters involving persons under 18 who are considered in need of supervision, delinquent, or neglected/abused.

Jackson County public court records are documents of legal proceedings and other court processes of courts located in the county. They include court filings, dockets, transcripts, orders, rulings, decrees, and judgments. The county's Chancery and Circuit Clerks are responsible for storing and maintaining public court records, including maintaining general court dockets, the courts' execution dockets, and keeping orders of the courts.
