Kandiyohi County
Organized in 1858, Kandiyohi County is located in Minnesota and has Wilmar as its county seat. It has a population of nearly 44,000 residents and previously encompassed Monognalia County in 1870.
The Kandiyohi County trial court structure comprises a single court known as the Kandiyohi County District Court. It is a general jurisdiction court with the authority to hear all civil and criminal lawsuits in the county. It is separated into various divisions according to case type, including Civil, Criminal, Family, Juvenile, and Probate Divisions. Additional divisions within this trial include Housing, Misdemeanor, Traffic, and Conciliation (or Small Claims) Divisions.
The Conciliatory Division oversees general civil cases below $7,500, and its jurisdiction covers claims for amounts in dispute up to $4,000 for cases involving consumer credit transactions. Its jurisdiction, however, excludes libel or slander-based defamation cases, medical malpractice, title controversy/real estate boundary disputes, evictions, specific performance suits, and injunctive relief suits.
