Chisago County
Chisago County was named after Chisago Lake. It was officially established in 1851 and has its administrative offices in Center City. The county is bordered by five neighboring counties and one interstate boundary. It sprawls across 415 square miles and is home to over 56,621 residents.
The District Court is the only county-established court in Chisago County. This court has jurisdiction that covers each of the criminal and civil cases and is divided into many divisions depending on specific types of cases. The divisions are Family, Civil, Probate, Criminal, Housing, Conciliation, Misdemeanor, and Traffic. The Criminal Division hears all felony and misdemeanor cases. The Civil Division hears disputes involving real estate titles or boundaries, defamation (libel or slander), requests for injunctive relief, and eviction cases. The Conciliation Division handles general civil disputes valued at less than $7,500. In addition to these divisions, the District Court also operates specialty programs, such as the Drug Court, Mental Health Court, and Truancy Court. These programs are designed to provide tailored approaches to specific legal and social issues.
