Clare County
Clare County was founded in 1840 and reorganised in 1871. It was named after County Clare, a county in the province of Munster in Ireland. Clare County comprises 576 square miles with land making up 564 square miles and water bodies accounting for 11 square miles. It has a population of 30,856 and Harrison is its county seat.
The Clare County trial court system is made up of the District Court, Circuit Court, and Probate Court. The 80th District Court has limited jurisdiction over civil and criminal cases including misdemeanors, traffic violations, preliminary hearings on felonies, and landlord-tenant cases. The Clare County District Court has a small claims department presiding over civil cases in which the amount involved in dispute is $5,000 or less.
The 55th Circuit Court handles cases beyond the jurisdiction of other courts. It presides over cases related to felony and equity, and has a Family Court Division hearing juvenile, divorce, child paternity, and domestic relation cases. The Friend of the Court Office is a subdivision of the Family Court handling domestic relation cases involving minors.
The 17th Probate Court is in charge of cases pertaining to wills, administration of estates, name changes, the care and protection of mentally and physically impaired persons, and guardianships.

The Michigan Freedom of Information Act specifically allows the members of the public to request, view, and obtain copies of court records except in cases where the law exempts those records.
