Kennebec County

Kennebec County, Maine, was created in 1799 from parts of Cumberland and Lincoln Counties. Its land area is about 867.5 square miles, and its estimated population is 124,003. The county seat is located in Augusta, the state capital.

Kennebec County courts comprise a Superior Court, two District Courts, and a Probate Court. The Superior Court, a trial court of general jurisdiction, deals with criminal and civil cases. The District Courts hear misdemeanors, civil, domestic relations, family law, juvenile, mental health, traffic infractions, building violations, and small claims cases with claims less than $6,000.
