Beauregard County

Beauregard Parish was established in 1913. Until 1762, Spain held land that would later become what is modern-day Beauregard Parish. According to data recorded in 2020, the parish is home to at least 36,549 people. Its seat is DeRidder, its most populous municipality.

Residents of Beauregard Parish are served by a District Court, Justice of the Peace Courts, and Mayor's Courts. The District Court is the highest jurisdiction court in the county. The court has exclusive jurisdiction over felonies and most cases related to property disputes. It also hears misdemeanors, domestic relations cases, administrative appeals, and civil cases without financial limits. The Justice of the Peace Court has locations in Fields, Merryville, Ragley, and DeRidder. These courts have limited jurisdiction over civil and criminal cases. They have the jurisdiction to conduct preliminary hearings for felonies and often hear non-felony criminal cases. The Mayor's Courts typically hear cases related to traffic and local ordinance violations. Although their jurisdiction is limited, they have the authority to impose fines and pass an imprisonment sentence.
