Warren County
Warren County was founded in 1797 and named for Major General Joseph Warren. The county is located in the southwestern area of Kentucky and is home to an estimated 134,554 residents. Bowling Green serves as the county seat. Warren County covers 541.7 square miles of land, making it the 10th largest county in Kentucky by total area.
The Warren County court system consists of a Circuit Court and a District Court. Warren County Circuit Court has general jurisdiction over all civil cases of more than $5,000, such as title disputes and contested probate cases. It also has the authority to impose writs, issue injunctions, and hear appeals from the District Court. The county's Circuit Court includes a Family Court Division, which is the highest level of trial court in Kentucky, operating under the jurisdiction of the Circuit Court. The Family Court Division handles cases involving child custody, domestic violence, divorce, and termination of parental rights.
The Warren County District Court has limited jurisdiction over certain types of civil and criminal cases, including city and county ordinances, misdemeanors, juvenile matters, wills, small claims involving $2,500 or less, and civil cases under $5,000.
