Pike County
Pike County was the seventieth county formed in Kentucky and was named in honor of General Zebulon M. Pike. Founded on December 19, 1821, it currently has more than 55,900 residents and a total area of 789 square miles, making it the largest county by area in the state.
Pike County's trial court system consists of a Circuit Court and a District Court. The Circuit Court handles capital offenses and felonies, civil matters involving more than $5,000, contested probate cases, and land dispute title cases. This court also has a Family Court division that exclusively handles family-related cases, like child custody, support and visitation, dissolutions of marriage, adoptions, dependency, neglect and abuse cases, termination of parental rights, and other similar matters. The District Court handles arraignments, felony probable cause hearings and misdemeanors, civil cases involving $5,000 or less, small claims that do not involve more than $2,500, city and county ordinance violations, and traffic offenses. This court also handles juvenile matters, cases relating to domestic violence and abuse, probate of wills, and matters involving voluntary and involuntary mental commitments.
The county also has a Drug Court and other Specialty Court programs (like the Veterans Treatment and Mental Health Courts) that offer certain offenders alternatives to traditional incarceration.
Pike County public court records are documents that detail court-related activities within the county. These include court filings, summonses and subpoenas, sworn affidavits, citations, trial dispositions, transcripts, judgments, and verdicts. The Pike County Circuit Court Clerk is responsible for managing these records and making copies available to members of the public when requested.
