Meade County

Meade County borders the Ohio River in the north-central part of Kentucky. It was founded in 1823 and named after Captain James M. Meade. With its county seat in Brandenburg, Meade County has a population of approximately 30,000 people. It is included in the Elizabethtown-Fort Knox Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The Circuit Court and District Court conduct all trial-level judicial proceedings in Meade County. The Meade Circuit Court is a court of general jurisdiction with the authority to hear all legal matters not assigned to another court. It handles a wide range of cases, including felonies punishable by sentences of one year or more, contested probate matters, disputes involving the title or ownership of real property, civil lawsuits with a value exceeding $5,000, and appeals from cases originally initiated in the District Court.

The Meade District Court manages a much larger volume of cases than the Circuit Court. District judges hold hearings for misdemeanor criminal cases punishable by less than one year in jail, civil lawsuits in which the amount in dispute is $5,000 or less, uncontested probate matters, small claims, traffic cases, and evictions.

Meade County public court records are documents and materials connected with cases handled in the county's trial courts. The Circuit Court Clerk is responsible for managing recent court records and is equally tasked with providing access to them upon receiving a request. Also, the public can remotely access information on cases heard in the Meady County courts by creating an account and paying the applicable fees on the KYeCourts platform.

Depending on the age of your desired records, you may locate them by contacting the appropriate office. For records less than 15 years old, visit the Circuit Court Clerk's Office. The office is open to the public Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and is located at:

516 Hillcrest Drive

Brandenburg, KY 40108

If you are looking for court case records that are 15 to 35 years old, you can submit a records request form to the State Records Center or contact them at 502-564-3617.
