Campbell County
Campbell County, Kentucky, lies along the Licking and Ohio Rivers and covers only 159 square miles. Alexandria and Newport are its county seats, with an estimated number of 93,000 residents. Predominantly inhabited by the white racial group, the county is recognized for its close proximity to Cincinnati, Ohio.
The two main courts in the Campbell trial court system are the Circuit Court and District Court. The Campbell Circuit Court maintains jurisdiction that covers a blend of criminal and civil cases. All civil cases above $5,000, contested probate matters, felonies, and title-to-land disputes are addressed in this court. Additionally, it handles appeals from the District Court and has the authority to issue injunctions and writs of prohibition.
Conversely, the Campbell District Court has a limited jurisdiction; however, it addresses a wide range of civil and criminal matters. It focuses on small claims cases involving $2,500 or less, civil cases involving sums up to $5,000, misdemeanors, probate of wills, traffic offenses, juvenile matters, city and county ordinance violations, felony probable cause hearings, and abuse and domestic violence cases.
