Bullitt County

Bullitt County is located south of Louisville in north-central Kentucky. As of 2023, the county had an estimated population of 84,863. It was founded in 1796, and its western fifth is reserved for military training as part of the United States Army post of Fort Knox.

The Bullitt Circuit Court holds general jurisdiction over felonies and capital offenses, civil lawsuits involving amounts exceeding $5,000, contested probate cases, and land dispute title cases. It also hears appeals from the Bullitt District Court and has the authority to issue injunctions and writs of prohibition.

The Bullitt District Court is a limited jurisdiction court that holds hearings for city and county ordinance violations, probate of wills, juvenile matters, small claims involving $2,500 or less, misdemeanors, domestic violence cases, voluntary and involuntary mental commitments, as well as civil cases in which the amount in dispute is $5,000 or less.
