Boyd County
Boyd County was the 107th county to be created in Kentucky. It was established in 1860 and named for former U.S. Congressman Linn Boyd. Two of Boyd County's twenty-six municipalities are most notable. First is its administrative seat, the City of Catlettsburg, and second, its most populous city, Ashland. As of 2020, the county was considered home to at least 48,261 people.
Boyd County's judicial system consists of its Circuit and District Courts. The Circuit Court has jurisdiction over all civil and criminal matters. It hears cases such as felonies, capital offenses, and civil disputes involving amounts exceeding $5,000. Additionally, it handles matters like divorce, adoption, real estate disputes, contested probate issues, and administrative appeals.
