Knox County

Knox County, the oldest county in Indiana, was formed out of the Northwest Territory in 1790. The county covers 515.8 square miles and is home to approximately 36,148 residents. The county seat is the City of Vincennes.

Knox County Court's structure comprises a Circuit Court, a Superior Court, and a City and Town Court. The Circuit Court hears cases involving felony, civil, juvenile, traffic infractions, domestic relations, probate, and mental health. The court conducts jury trials, except for small claims cases. The Superior Court handles civil, misdemeanor, and small claims cases in which the amount in contention is less than $6,000. It has concurrent jurisdiction with the Circuit Court over juvenile, traffic infractions, domestic relations, and ordinance violations cases. Problem-solving courts are designed to help offenders who are grappling with challenges such as substance use disorders and mental health issues. It includes the Adult Drug Court, Family Recovery Court, and Veterans Court (in planning stages). The City Court presides over cases related to traffic infractions, misdemeanors, and ordinance violations.

Knox County public court records contain documents, orders, photographs, indexes, dockets, transcripts, and judgments generated or obtained in the judicial proceedings. The Knox County Clerk of the Courts' office is responsible for preparing and administering official court records for all the trial courts in the county. The records listed below are available to the public:
