Jackson County

Jackson County was founded in 1818 and named after the United States' 7th President, Andrew Jackson. Located in southern Indiana, the county has a land area of 510 square miles and a population of 46,212 residents. Its county seat is Brownstone, while its populous city is the City of Seymour.

The Circuit and Superior Courts make up the Jackson County Courts. The Circuit Court has unlimited jurisdiction over criminal and civil matters that are not exclusive to other trial courts in Jackson County. It hears court cases involving contract disputes, civil torts, worker's compensation claims, name changes, and domestic relations issues. The Circuit Court judge in Jackson County presides over all felony-related trials and appeals from other trial courts. The first Superior Court in Jackson County typically rules on all misdemeanor trials, eviction complaints, and small claims cases.
