Harrison County
Harrison County covers about 484 square miles of land in southern Indiana. It was created in 1808 from parts of Clark and Knox Counties and named in honor of William Henry Harrison, the ninth President of the United States. As of 2022, Harrison County is home to 39,684 persons. The Town of Corydon, Indiana's former capital city, serves as the county's largest community and government seat.
Harrison County's judicial system comprises the Circuit and Superior Courts. The Circuit Court has general jurisdiction over civil and criminal cases, which is not exclusive to other county courts. Circuit Court judges in Harrison County typically hear civil lawsuits such as contract disputes, professional malpractices, tort claims, worker's compensation claims, and family law cases. They also preside over criminal court proceedings like felonies and class A misdemeanors. The Superior Court in Harrison County has general jurisdiction over minor misdemeanors, eviction disputes, and small claims cases.
