Hancock County
Hancock County was created on March 1, 1828 and named after the president of the Second Continental Congress for the Declaration of American Independence in 1776. It has a population of over 70,002 residents. Greenfield is its county seat and largest city.
The judicial structure of Hancock County includes a Circuit Court and Superior Courts. The Hancock Circuit Court is a court of general jurisdiction hearing both civil and criminal cases. A judge is elected to serve a six-year term and appoints three magistrates to perform other judicial responsibilities within the Court. The Circuit Court has jurisdiction over the following cases:

- Domestic Relations
The Hancock County Superior Court Division I is a court of general jurisdiction that handles serious felony cases, divorces, juvenile delinquencies, estate administration processes, foreclosures, and landlord-tenant cases. The Superior Court Division II handles small claims, non-serious felonies (Class D felonies), and traffic citation cases.
The Office of the Clerk of Circuit Court, who also serves as the county clerk, files and maintains court records. This office handles court record requests and provides court case information upon request. The Clerk also serves as a clerk to the court system/clerk of courts.

Advanced search on the site will provide you with options to search by case status and filing date. In addition, you can visit the County Clerk's Office to retrieve a court record or complete a Request for Information Form.
