La Salle County
LaSalle County, Illinois, was formed out of Tazewell and Putnam Counties in 1831. It was named after the first recorded European to have entered the region, French explorer Rene-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle. LaSalle County has a land area of 1,135 square miles, and its water bodies cover 13 square miles. About 110,000 people reside within the county. Ottawa is its county seat and largest city.
The LaSalle County Circuit Court is the only court within the LaSalle County area. The Circuit Court is the court of general jurisdiction over all civil and criminal cases and is organized into divisions based on case types. The Civil Division handles all civil, and domestic relations, probate, small claims, and juvenile matters. It hears divorces, annulments, maintenance, emancipation, neglected minors, civil disputes, paternity, juvenile delinquency, estates, conservatorships, and wills. The Traffic and Criminal Division hears all misdemeanors, felonies, traffic violations, and parking infractions.
