The Clinton County Circuit Court handles a wide range of legal matters, including criminal and traffic cases. It hears civil cases including property disputes, personal injury claims, and contract disputes. This court manages all criminal felony cases, from initial arraignment to trial and sentencing. It also holds hearings for misdemeanor cases, particularly those involving serious offenses.
Legal matters involving juveniles, such as delinquency, abuse and neglect, traffic offenses, and dependency cases, are also determined by the Circuit Court. Additionally, this court provides a forum for the administration of estates and the distribution of assets belonging to deceased persons.
Clinton County court records, including record sheets, calendars, indexes, orders, dispositions, and complaints, are generally accessible to the public in both paper and electronic forms. These records are received and stored by the Circuit Clerk and can be made available to interested parties as long as they are not sealed, impounded, or expunged by court rules.
As a service to the public, the Circuit Clerk provides public access to online case information through a subscription-based portal. However, the Electronic Access Policy for Circuit Court Records of the Illinois Courts restricts access to certain documents maintained in a public case to protect sensitive information. As a result, the best way to access all court documents is by visiting the Clerk's Office in person. The Clerk's Office is located at 850 Fairfax Street, Room 220, Carlyle, IL 62231.
Additionally, anyone can also utilize public computers provided in the courthouse to look up and print out case dispositions available to the public in Clinton County.
