Bureau County
Bureau County, Illinois, was formed from Putnam County in 1837 and named after brothers Michel and Pierre Bureau. It has a land area of 869 square miles, and according to the 2020 U.S. census, it had 33,244 residents. Its county seat and largest city is Princeton. The Civil Division handles all civil, juvenile, probate, domestic relations, and small claims proceedings. It hears issues involving paternity, child custody, termination of parental rights, juvenile delinquency, wills, estates, guardianships, conservatorships, divorces, annulments, legal separations, alimony, emancipations, and child neglect. All felonies and misdemeanors are handled by the Criminal Division, while the Traffic Division handles all parking and traffic violations.
