Latah County
Located in the northern Idaho panhandle and founded in 1888, Latah County is the only county created by Congress in the state. It covers about 1,076 square miles of land. At least 41,000 people call Latah County home.
Idaho's Second Judicial District Court serves Latah County, among a few others. The Latah County District Court operates two divisions: the District and Magistrate Divisions. The District Division has original jurisdiction in all cases and proceedings. On the other hand, the Magistrate Division hears cases relating to misdemeanors/trials, divorce proceedings, infractions/trials, domestic violence cases, small claims matters, domestic violence hearings, and felony preliminary/felony probable-cause hearings. It also exercises jurisdiction over civil matters where the amount in dispute is up to $10,000.
Furthermore, the Latah County District Court offers two special services for high-need/high-risk offenders. These are the Felony Drug Treatment Court and the Mental Health Treatment Court:
The Latah County Drug Treatment Court - This court is designed for high-need/high-risk offenders struggling under felony supervision
The Latah County Mental Health Treatment Court - This court is meant to help high-need/high-risk offenders who suffer from acute and persistent mental illness
Records of all legal proceedings filed and heard in Latah County are stored in the county court where they were filed/heard.
