Bingham County

Bingham County was formed from the eastern and northern parts of Oneida County and named after U.S. Congressman Henry H. Bingham. With Blackfoot as its largest city and county seat, the county spans a total area of 2,120 square miles. According to the 2023 Population Estimate Program, approximately 50,395 people reside in Bingham County.

The two main courts within the Bingham County court system are the District Court and the Magistrate Court. The District Court addresses felonies, civil lawsuits involving amounts exceeding $10,000, domestic relations cases, appeals from decisions made by the magistrate court, and post-conviction relief actions.

Magistrate judges handle misdemeanors and civil cases involving disputes of $10,000 or less in the Bingham Magistrate Court. They also determine juvenile cases, probate matters, and certain domestic cases, including child support, alimony, and divorce.
