Sac County
Located in the heart of Northwest Iowa, Sac County covers 575 square miles of land area and has an estimated population of over 9,600. The county was founded in 1851 and was named in honor of a local American Indian tribe called Sauk, who inhabited the area before the arrival of white settlers.
Sac County is part of Judicial District 2 of Iowa's District Courts. The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Iowa also has jurisdiction in Sac County. The District Court in Sac County has general jurisdiction over criminal, civil, juvenile, and probate matters. It is where all lawsuits in the county begin, and trials occur.
Most records of legal proceedings in Sac County are public and can be accessed by interested individuals.
