Lumpkin County, located in northeast Georgia, was founded in 1832 and named after Wilson Lumpkin. The county seat is Dahlonega. Over 35,258 people live in Lumpkin County, which spans approximately 282.94 square miles of land. The judicial system in Lumpkin County comprises a Superior Court, a juvenile Court, a Probate Court, a Magistrate Court, and a Municipal Court.
The Lumpkin County Superior Court has general jurisdiction over most criminal and civil cases, including felonies, domestic relations, and divorce. The court includes a Family Division, which oversees cases related to family matters such as paternity, child support, and child abuse. The Juvenile Court in Lumpkin County handles cases related to juvenile delinquency, including juvenile traffic offenses and the termination of parental rights.
