Hall County
Hall County, located in the northeastern part of Georgia, was named after Lyman Hall, an American Founding Father. It was established in 1818 and currently has a population of over 200,000 residents. The county's land area is 393 square miles, while its seat of government is Gainesville.
Hall County's judiciary is made up of the Superior, State, Juvenile, Probate, Magistrate, and Municipal Courts. The Superior Court is the general jurisdiction court in Hall County. It has exclusive authority over felonies, civil equity cases, and real estate disputes. The Superior Court, through its Family Division, handles adoptions, divorces, and other domestic relations issues. Appeals from the county's Magistrate, Probate, and Municipal Courts can be reviewed by the Superior Court judges.
The State Court has jurisdiction over misdemeanors, non-equity cases, and civil disputes not exclusive to the Superior Court. In Hall County, the Juvenile Court addresses all legal proceedings involving delinquent acts and truancy, while the Probate Court resolves probate matters such as disputed wills and guardianships. The Magistrate Court handles court matters involving dispossessory writs, small claims cases, and landlord-tenant disputes.
