Forsyth County
Forsyth County is located in the northeastern part of Georgia, within the Atlanta Metropolitan area. It was created in 1831, occupies a total area of 247 square miles, and has an estimated population of 280,000. Cumming serves as the county seat and it is the only incorporated city in the county.
The Superior Court in Forsyth County has broad jurisdiction over civil and criminal cases. This court has exclusive jurisdiction over felony, divorce, title to land, and equity cases. The Superior Court can also correct the error of a lower court by issuing writ of certiorari.

The jurisdiction of the Forsyth County Municipal Court is limited to hearing cases of municipal ordinance violations, traffic, and certain misdemeanor offenses.
The Probate Court of Forsyth County is responsible for issuing marriage and firearm licenses, birth and death certificates, and processing passport applications. This court has exclusive jurisdiction in the administration of estates, probate of wills, and appointment of guardians or conservators for incapacitated persons and minors.
