Walton County
Walton County is located on the Emerald Coast and was organized in 1824 by European Americans. Its southern edge borders the Gulf of Mexico, and DeFuniak Springs is recognized as the county seat. The county spans an area of 1,028 square miles and is home to approximately 86,354 individuals.
Walton County is part of the First Judicial Circuit of Florida, which is the trial court with general jurisdiction over matters not assigned to the County Court. It has original jurisdiction in felony cases, juvenile cases, disputes over the title and boundaries of real property, controversies involving the estates of minors and incapacitated persons, civil lawsuits involving more than $50,000, and tax disputes. This court also has the authority to issue writs of certiorari, mandamus, habeas corpus, and quo warranto.
Known as the people's court, the Walton County Court hears a wide variety of cases directly impacting the lives of the county residents. It handles criminal cases, including petty theft, minor drug offenses, DUI, reckless driving, and vandalism. The County Court also has general jurisdiction over actions of law in which the amount in controversy does not exceed $50,000, landlord-tenant disputes, and small claims for amounts up to $8,000.

The Walton County Clerk of Courts and Comptroller maintains these records electronically and in paper format. Upon request by any member of the general public, the Clerk makes available accurate records in these case types:

Based on your access privileges, you can search for publicly available court records using parameters such as name, case number, or date range. If you are unable to find your desired records online, you may request copies of court documents or to view copies of documents within your case by completing the Court Document Request/View Form.
