Martin County

Martin County is located in the southeastern region of Florida. It was formed on May 30, 1925; the southern part of the county was created from Palm Beach County while the northern region was taken from St. Lucie County. Its government seat is in Stuart. Martin County was named for John W. Martin, an ex-Florida governor from 1925 to 1929. It encompasses 753 square miles with a population of over 150,000 people.

The residents of Martin County enjoy the robust services of a County Court and Circuit Court. These courts strive to provide excellent services, fair judgment, and maintain/restore peace and order. The County Court has several divisions such as the; criminal, domestic relations, small claims, traffic, juvenile, and civil divisions. It is the people's court and presides over small claim matters (involving claims that amount to $8,000 or less), traffic, civil (in which the amount of money involved in the dispute is between $8,000 and $50,000), and landlord-tenant cases. As part of its jurisdiction, it issues protective orders and attends to juvenile and eviction cases as well as provides support to individuals who are found guilty of qualifying drug offenses and helps them become drug-free through its Drug Court.

Most civil and criminal matters originate in the Circuit Court as a court of general jurisdiction. It hears cases that are not assigned to the County Court. The majority of jury trials happen here. The Circuit Court primarily settles civil cases in the amount of $50,000 or more, probate, felony criminal, guardianship, family law, and mental health commitment cases.

The Circuit Court Clerk and Comptroller by constitution pledges an allegiance to the safety and completeness of court records as well as serves as the public trustee. Non-confidential case records and dockets are indexed and stored electronically with the clerk and can be accessed online.

Case records that are accessible to the public are:
