Marion County
Marion County is located in north central Florida. It was founded in 1844 and named for an American military officer and politician who served during the Revolutionary War and the French and Indian War - Francis Marion. The county has a population of over 375,000 people.
Two courts; a county court and a circuit court, both located in Ocala, the county seat, make up the trial court system in the county. The county courts hear traffic cases, civil cases, certified questions, misdemeanors, and small claims cases. Most misdemeanors, violations of county and municipal ordinances, and some juvenile traffic cases are handled in the county courts. The court also hears simplified divorce and civil dissolution cases.
The circuit court in the county hears juvenile delinquency and dependency cases, probate matters, felonies, civil cases, guardianship, mental health, family law matters, and some appeals from the county court.
The clerk of the court and comptroller is the official custodian of court records in Marion County.
