Collier County
Collier County was created in 1923 and named after Barron Collier, a real estate developer who settled in Southwest Florida. According to the 2020 census, the county had a population of 375,752, reflecting a 16.9% increase since 2010. Naples is the county's largest city, while its county seat is East Naples.
The Twentieth Judicial Circuit Court and the County Court of Collier County are the trial courts that serve residents. The Collier County Circuit Court has general trial jurisdiction over cases not statutorily assigned to the County Court. It has original jurisdiction over disputes involving the estates of decedents and minors, cases related to juveniles, civil lawsuits involving more than $50,000, tax disputes, and criminal prosecutions for all felonies. In addition, the Circuit Court can exercise its jurisdiction by issuing writs of prohibition, quo warranto, certiorari, habeas corpus, and mandamus.
The County Court of Collier County has limited jurisdiction over certain criminal and civil cases. Juvenile traffic cases, misdemeanors, and violations of county and municipal codes are the criminal cases handled by the County Court. Also, it hears civil, equity, and landlord-tenant cases.
