Clay County
Clay County is located in the Northeastern region of Florida. It was named in honor of Henry Clay, a former United States Secretary of State and statesman. Clay County was established on December 31, 1858 and comprises 644 square miles. Lakeside serves as the county's largest city while its county seat is in Green Cove Springs.
The Clay County judicial system includes multiple Circuit Courts and County Courts. Circuit Courts are trial courts that handle civil and criminal cases. Clay County Circuit Courts have jurisdiction over landlord-tenant cases, probate cases, mental health cases, and juvenile cases as well as civil cases in which the amount involved in dispute is $15,000 or less.
County Courts preside over civil and equity cases in which the amount involved in dispute is $10,000 or less. These courts are limited to cases involving juvenile traffic violation, misdemeanor, municipal and county ordinance violations. In addition, they have the jurisdiction to issue temporary orders if authorized by Circuit Courts.
