Alachua County

Alachua county is located in the North Central region of the United States. It was created on December 2, 1824 by the Florida territorial legislature and has a population of 278,468 covering 969 square miles. Alachua county is Florida's largest territory, home to the University of Florida, and has its seat in Gainesville, the largest city in the state.

There is a two-tier judicial court system in Alachua county made up of Circuit Courts and County Courts. The Circuit Courts oversee some appeals from the County Court as well as probate, guardianship, mental health, felonies, juvenile, and civil cases in which the amount of money in dispute is more than $50,000.
