Fremont County
Situated in central Colorado, Fremont County was created in 1861 and named in honor of John C. Fremont, an explorer and presidential candidate in the 19th century. It occupies a total area of 1,534 square miles and has an estimated population of 49,000. Notably, the county is the location of 15 prisons, mostly operated by the state.
The Fremont County court system comprises district court, county court, and municipal courts. The district court handles a wide range of cases including juvenile, probate, felony, divorce, child custody, mental health, and lesser-included offenses. Furthermore, the district court may hear cases that are not within the jurisdiction of the county court.
