Amador County

Popularly known as "The Heart of the Mother Lode," Amador County was established in 1854 and named for Jose Maria Amador, a gold miner in the area. The county has a land area of approximately 595 square miles and a population of 40,577 residents. The City of Jackson serves as the county seat, while the largest city is Ione.

Amador County's court system consists solely of the Superior Court. The general jurisdiction court handles all civil and criminal trials through its subject-matter court divisions. The Civil Division resolves mortgage foreclosures, torts, professional malpractices, and financial disputes involving more than $25,000. On the other hand, the Superior Court's Criminal Division tries felony-related cases, misdemeanors, traffic crimes, and other criminal cases.

The apex court features a Family Division with jurisdiction over legal separation matters, domestic violence restraining orders, parentage issues, child/spousal support, and child custody. Parking infractions and DUI offenses are resolved at the Traffic Division, while the Juvenile Division handles child dependencies and juvenile delinquencies. Other divisions of the Superior Court include the Small Claims and Probate Divisions. These divisions oversee legal matters such as contested wills, conservatorships, and monetary disputes under $10,000. The court also has an Appeals Division that reviews and modifies judgments from other court divisions.
