Yavapai County
Yavapai County was established in 1864. It was named after the Yavapai Tribe, which has lived in western Arizona for centuries. The county has a population of 246,191 and covers 8,122.9 square miles. Yavapai's county seat is in Prescott, Central Arizona. Its largest industries are tourism, manufacturing, and mining.
Yavapai's judicial system is organized under Article VI of the Arizona Constitution, entailing Municipal Courts and Superior Courts. Yavapai's Superior Court has general jurisdiction over civil cases worth more than $10,000 and felony prosecutions. Superior Court judges also hear real property title, marriage dissolution, and probate matter cases. Yavapai's Municipal Court has jurisdiction over petty offenses, violations of state law, and misdemeanor crimes. The Courts average between 50,000 and 55,000 cases annually.
Court records are files comprising minute entries, orders, and witness testimonials prepared during court proceedings. County clerks maintain these records. These records may include probate, juvenile, criminal, domestic, and civil records. Moreover, court orders are required for materials ruled to be confidential. County clerks issue warrants and writs, provide jurors from lists of holders of driver's licenses and registered voters, and record and issue marriage licenses. They also collect judgment revenues in traffic infraction cases, filing fees, and court costs.
