Oconto County was established in 1851 and is located in the northeastern part of the state. The county spans about 997.5 total square miles and has an estimated population of 38,965 people as of the 2020 U.S. Census. Oconto County is the 14th greatest county within Wisconsin based on total area, and the City of Oconto serves as the county seat.
