Bee County
Situated in south Texas, Bee County was established in 1858 and named in honor of Barnard E. Bee, Sr., an American politician. The county has a land area of 880.2 square miles and a population of more than 31,000 residents. Its county seat and largest city is Beeville.
The Bee County trial court system consists of District Courts, a County Court at Law, Justice Courts, and a Municipal Court. Bee County is home to three District Courts, the highest trial court in the county. These courts have original jurisdiction over civil claims involving $200 or more, disputes over property, felony criminal cases, divorce cases, and family law matters. The County Court at Law handles civil claims of up to $10,000, Class A and Class B misdemeanors, and juvenile cases. The court also hears probate cases, such as disputes relating to wills, guardianships, conservatorships, and the administration of estates.
Furthermore, there are four Justice Courts in Bee County with jurisdiction over civil claims of up to $10,000 and misdemeanors punishable by fines only. Additionally, the City of Beeville is home to a Municipal Court that adjudicates traffic violations, small claims, landlord-tenant disputes, simple offenses, municipal ordinance violations, and certain juvenile matters.
