Linn County
Linn County occupies about 2,297 square miles in the northwestern part of Oregon. It was established in 1847 from the southern area of Champoeg, which later became Marion County. The county population is approximately 131,000.
Linn County is within Oregon's 23rd Judicial District and operates a County Circuit Court, a trial court of general jurisdiction. The court handles all types of cases, including civil, criminal, juvenile, violations, traffic, probate, adoption, mental commitments, domestic relations, guardianship, and small claims cases. The Linn County court system also has a Justice Court, which has civil jurisdiction over small claims, landlord/tenant actions, and civil actions to recover personal property or money in which the valued claim is $10,000 or less. The county's Justice Court also has concurrent jurisdiction with the County Circuit Court of misdemeanor crimes as well as other offenses committed within the county.
