Lyon County

Lyon County is one of the nine counties in Nevada, created in 1861. The county was named to honor Nathaniel Lyon, a prominent military officer killed in the American Civil War. It is home to more than 59,000 people and has a land area of about 2,003 square miles. The county seat is Yerington, while the most populous city is Fernley.

Lyon County's judicial system comprises three trial courts: the District, Justice, and Municipal Courts. The District Court in Lyon County hears all major criminal proceedings involving felonies and gross misdemeanors. It also resolves civil cases such as real estate disputes, contract breaches, and monetary claims above $10,000. Other court proceedings in the District Court include contested wills, domestic relations cases, and appeals from other courts in Lyon County.

The county's Justice Courts are in Dayton, Walker River, and Carnal Township. These courts hear misdemeanors and civil lawsuits involving up to $10,000 in financial disputes. They also handle legal matters involving temporary protection orders, small claims, forfeitures, and landlord-tenant disputes. Lyon County has Municipal Courts in Fernley and Yerington.
