Camden County
Camden County was named after Charles Pratt, 1st Earl Camden. It was formed on March 13, 1844 from Gloucester County and has a population of over 523,485 people. Camden County occupies an area spreading over 227.42 square miles and consists of 36 municipalities.
Camden Superior Court is the highest court of trial in Camden County where both civil and criminal cases are heard. This court has special divisions for civil, criminal, family, domestic, and felony cases. Municipal Courts in Camden County are responsible for enforcing order in cities and towns. They deal with issues concerning traffic ticketing and city ordinance violation, and have limited jurisdiction over minor criminal offenses.
The Surrogate Court is in charge of settling disputes related to probate and wills as well as resolving issues regarding adoption and guardianship.
