Sagadahoc County

Located in the southern part of Maine, Sagadahoc County was founded in 1854 and named after the Sagadahoc River, now the Kennebec River. It has a total area of 370 square miles, making it the smallest county in Maine per geographical area. As of the 2020 US census, 36,699 people live within its boundaries. Bath is its county seat, and Topsham is its largest city.

The court system in Sagadahoc County comprises Superior, District, and Probate Courts. The Sagadahoc County Superior Court is the county's principal Court and is the only court in the county that offers jury trials. The Sagadahoc County Probate Court hears all probate matters, such as management of estates and trusts, admission of wills, appointment of guardianships and conservatorships, and adoption cases.
