Tippecanoe County
Located in the west-central part of the state of Indiana, Tippecanoe County was established in 1826. The county has a rich history spanning thousands of years. It is best known for the Battle of Tippecanoe in 1811 and Purdue University. Currently, the population is 188,717, covering an area of 503 square miles. The main economic activities in the county are manufacturing, health care, social assistance, and educational services.
The County is under the United States District Court to the North District of Indiana. The county is home to the Circuit and Superior trial courts. These preside over most criminal, civil, probate, small claims, and traffic cases. The Circuit Court, though, has jurisdiction over all probate cases. Tippecanoe's Superior Court has seven sub-divisions, though they share the same physical address. The Northern District of Indiana covers Tippecanoe County. Any decision that is appealed is directed to the United States of Appeals for the 7th Circuit.
Court records are documents that are produced during case proceedings. They may include pleas, witness testimonies, orders, dockets, evidence, statements, minutes, evidence, and judgments. In Illinois, court records are open to the public, considering the Freedom of Information Act. Though there may not be specific eligibility requirements, some cases are usually restricted from all viewing due to their content. Domestic relations cases, adoptions, juvenile records, and some criminal cases may not be accessible to every party. That said, the County Clerk presides over court records. Record requests to their offices may be made in person or via mail. Requesters do have to submit a Record Request form and $1 for every page they order.
The County Clerk provides access to the following types of records
- Criminal Cases
- Civil Cases
- Probate Cases
- Small Claims Cases
- Traffic Cases
Record Seekers may access cases online via the Tippecanoe Court Records platform. This portal provides access to criminal, civil, and family law cases. The Indiana Judicial Branch website also allows access to court records. Requesters must provide the case or citation number, court, and case type to view the desired information.
